Red Knights participate in Wild Leadership Summit

ST. PAUL -- Benilde-St. Margaret's captain Nate Clark, and assistant captains Joe Collins and Jerome Newhouse took part today in the first Minnesota Wild Leadership Summit presented by Xcel Energy.

As part of the summit, the Red Knight trio had the opportunity to hear from various coaches, former captains and sports industry leaders to learn more about becoming a great leader, in addition to attending the Minnesota Wild Development Camp.

In addition to guest speakers Matt Majka, president of the Wild, Minnesota Hockey executive director Glen Andresen and College Hockey Inc. executive director Mike Snee, Summit attendees were able to take part in four seminars.

The first seminal featured former University of Minnesota Director of Athletics and Positive Coaching Alliance trainer Joel Maturi.

Brigadier General David Hamlar MD DDS and craniofacial surgeon for the Wild conducted the second seminar.

The third seminar was a captains' club round table discussion hosted by Fox Sports North's Anthony LaPanta and featured Brian Bonin, Hannah Brandt, Shjon Podein and Krissy Wendell Pohl.

The final seminar was a coaches' corner round table discussion which featured Augsburg men's head coach Chris Brown, Hamline women's head coach Natalie Darwitz, Minnesota State associate women's head coach Jeff Giesen, former University of Minnesota women's head coach and current Minnesota Whitecaps co-head coach Laura Halldorson, University of Minnesota associate women's head coach Joel Johnson and Bemidji State men's assistant coach Travis Winter.

The day concluded with attendees taking in the Wild Development Camp.

Clark, Collins and Newhouse will lead the Red Knights for the 2017-18 season, which begins Nov. 28 when BSM opens the season on the road at St. Michael-Albertville.
