Former Red Knight Mr. Hockey Award winner set to begin pro career.

Benilde-St. Margarets' all-time leading scorer and 2013 Mr. Hockey Award winner, Grant Besse, has signed a professional contract with the Norfolk Admirals, affiliate of the NHL's Nashville Predators.

A fifth-round pick, 147th overall, of the Anaheim Ducks in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, Besse led the Red Knights to the Class AA state tournament title in 2012 with a memorable, five-goal performance in a 5-1 championship win over Hill-Murray.

That performance capped a 52-goal, 93-point junior season and he capped his career with a 48-goal, 76-point season leading to the Mr. Hockey Award.

In his four-year career, in which he scored 30 or more goals each season, he tallied 163 goals, fifth all-time in Minnesota high school hockey, and 272 points, seventh all-time.

After his graduating from BSM, Besse matriculated to the University of Wisconsin, where he tallied 98 points in 138 career games, leading the team in scoring as both a sophomore and junior. He served as an assistant captain in his final two seasons with the Badgers.

Besse will make his debut with the Admirals in the team's season opener, Oct. 13, at Idaho.

Grant Besse was a two-time first-team All-State and All-Metro selection.
