Red Knights ride three power-play goals to victory.

ST. MICHAEL, Minn. -- Benilde-St. Margaret's used a five-minute power-play in the second period to score three goals and the Red Knights' junior varsity opened the 2017-18 campaign with a 5-1 win at St. Michael-Albertville.

Jonny Woodford struck for the first of the three goals 50 seconds into the power play and Thompson followed suit just 14 seconds later with Cooper Gay making it a 4-0 game with 1:18 remaining in the period.

The Knights would get their only goal of the game on a turnover and rush to the net by Tanner Sundvall with eight seconds remaining on their penalty kill.

Entering the third period with a 25-3 advantage in shots on goal, BSM would outshoot their hosts, 9-2 in the final period with Nic Dokman's goal with 6:59 to play put the finishing touches on the victory.

Besides Thompson's two-goal performance, four other Red Knights notched two points on the night with Woodford and Gay both adding an assist to their goals while Axel Toft and Ty Ballinger both collected a pair of assists.

Up next for BSM is a weekend trip to the Northland which opens with a 5 p.m. game, Friday, at the Marshall School in Duluth.
