Defensive effort allows Red Knight offense to roll.

DULUTH, Minn. -- It took Benilde-St. Margaret's more than half of the game to finally get on the scoreboard but, when it did, the Red Knights junior varsity scored seven goals in the game's final 28 minutes to claim a 7-1 win at the Marshall School.

Jonny Woodford would have a hand in BSM's first two goals as he set up Axel Toft at 7:56 of the second period to give the Red Knights a 1-0 lead and he assisted on Jonah Mortenson's short-handed goal with 2:01 to play in the middle stanza.

The Red Knights allowed just five shots on goal, allowing it's offense to get on track and gave up just one shot in the final 15 minutes.

Will Thompson broke open the five-goal third-period with the first of his two goals, 2:51 into the final period.

Just 32 seconds later, the Hilltoppers struck for their only goal of the game but, when Sam Ryan scored at the 6:41 mark, BSM would score four goals in a span of 5:23 to seal the win.

Woodford scored 90 seconds after Ryan's goal and Charlie Deterding made it a 6-1 game before Thompson closed out the scoring with 2:56 to play.

Both Woodford and Axel Toft tallied a goal and two assists to lead the Red Knights.

Jack Olson was the recipient of BSM's defensive effort as he earned the victory in his first appearance as a Red Knight.

BSM's Northern Minnesota road trip continues tomorrow with a 12:45 p.m. matinee game at Grand Rapids.

Sam Ryan's third-period goal sparked a four-goal run that sealed the Red Knights' win.
