Red Knights fall for first time in 2017-18.

LAKEVILLE, Minn. -- Benilde-St. Margaret's got 27 combined saves from goalies Jack Olson and Cavan Slocum but it wasn't enough to overcome a 32-save effort by Lakeville North's A.J. Preachuk as the Panthers handed the Red Knights a 2-1 loss.

The opening period saw the two teams combined for 23 shots but North's Ben Konik got the only goal of the frame with two minutes, 55 seconds remaining.

The Panthers made it 2-0 just 1:24 into the second period and the score would remain that way into the third period.

BSM held a 14-5 advantage in shots on goal in the final period but could only mage a goal by Will Thompson with 10:13 to play and Preachuk closed the door on the Red Knights thereafter.

Slocum stopped all 16 shots he faced in 19:51 of work while Olson made 11 saves while playing 23:30.

Up next for BSM is the North-South Classic, Friday and Saturday, at Eden Prairie. The Red Knights will face Brainerd, Friday, beginning at 6 p.m. followed by a 2 p.m. matinee, Saturday, versus Hermantown.

Will Thompson scored his fifth goal of the season.
