BSM scores 10 times in middle stanza to cruise to season-opening victory.

DULUTH, Minn. -- After a scoreless first 17-minutes, no one could imagine the onslaught that was coming.

Third-ranked Benilde-St. Margaret's scored 10 goals in little more than 14 minutes of the second period and opened its 2019-20 campaign with an 11-0 win over the Marshall School of Duluth.

The Red Knights controlled the opening period, holding a 10-3 shots on goal advantage, but were unable to best Hilltopper starting goalie Sam Anderson until 94 seconds into the second period when newcomer Grant Ellings scored his first goal as a Red Knight to start the barrage.

Less than a minute later, Logan Lyke banged home a loose puck for his first career goal and BSM was on its way, tallying 29 shots on goal in the 17-minute frame.

Sixteen of the 17 skaters dressed for the Red Knights recorded points, led by veteran captain Blake Mesenburg, with a goal and three assists, and Nate Schweitzer, who matched a career high with four assists.

Adam Marshall and Cooper Gay each scored twice as nine different players scored goals.

Meanwhile, Jack Olson stayed focused despite seeing little action, which resulted in 10 saves for his second career shutout.

The Red Knights close out the two-game, season-opening road trip with a 3 p.m. game at No. 11 Grand Rapids, Saturday.

Nate Schweitzer opened his senior campaign with a four-assist performance.
