Red Knights skate to 1-1 draw with Wayzata

Short-handed BSM squad earns tie with Trojans.

ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. -- Two of the teams expected to compete for the Section 6AA title decided little at the Plymouth Ice Center, as seventh-ranked Benilde-St. Margaret's and 14th-ranked Wayzata skated to a 1-1 tie.

The Red Knights, using only 15 skaters, managed skate evenly with the Trojans and scored the game's first goal when Charlie Warnert scored a short-handed goal with 33 seconds to play in the second period.

The play started when Seamus Foley won a battle for the puck along the boards and Nate Schweitzer quickly grabbed the puck and fired it to a streaking Warnert in the neutral zone.

Warnert got behind the Wayzata defense and went in along, taking a shot on the ice when went between the pads of Trojan goalie Garret Bonello to send the visitors into the second intermission with a 1-0 lead.


Carson Limesand turned in another stellar effort with 28 saves.

However, the lead only lasted three and a half minutes as Drew Streeter was the beneficiary of a giveaway at the right side of the BSM net. He slid the puck between Red Knight goalie Carson Limesand and the near post to tie the game.

The visitors would out-shoot its host, 14-9, in the third period and had a 38-29 advantage for the game.

The Red Knights will play their final game before the Christmas break Saturday, when they face Section 6AA foe and 17th-ranked Cretin-Derham Hall in a 4:30 pm game at the TRIA Rink in St. Paul.
