BSM announces boys' hockey award winners in virtual banquet
Red Knights honored via online banquet
ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. -- Benilde-St. Margaret's honored its boys' hockey team at its annual banquet, doing so via Zoom due to social distancing required by the Corona Virus.
Junior varsity certificates were awarded to Mason Baldwin, Mitchell Dokman, Vince Ferris, Gino Gatti, Ryan Gearen, Nick Graczyk, Bjorn Lervick, A.J. Pauly, Jake Runman, Quinn Schliesman, Sam Schumacher, Ryan Sever, Theo Toft. Aiden Wahlstrom, Leo Warner and Kieran Wickner; while participation certificates were awarded to managers Demi Mills, Jeffrey Raymond, Sophia Delgado, Megan Hoch and Josey King.
Varsity letters were presented to Charlie Bischel, Jackson Bisson, James Callahan, Asher Connolly, Grant Ellings, Seamus Foley, Charlie Frattalone, Cooper Gay, Brady Giertsen, Carson Limesand, Logan Lyke, Adam Marshall, Blake Mesenburg, Jonah Mortenson, Jack Olson, Tristan Sarsland, Nate Schweitzer, Ben Thompson, Will Thompson, Charlie Warnert, Jonny Woodford and Brady Yakesh. Varsity letters were also awarded to managers Alexis Brixius, Anna Kocourek and Zach Zeman.
Earning All-Metro West Conference academic awards were Charlie Bischel, Seam Foley, Cooper Gay, Brady Giertsen, Logan Lyke, Zach Zeman, Balek Mesenburg, Nate Schweitzer and Will Thompson.

Varsity -- Charlie Bischel, Jackson Bisson, James Callahan, Asher Connolly, Seamus Foley, Charlie Frattalone, Jack Olson,Nate Schweitzer, Will Thompson, Brady Yakesh, Charlie Warnert, Cooper Gay, Carson Limesand, Logan Lyke, Adam Marshall, Blake Mesenburg, Tristan Sarsland, Ben Thompson and Brady Giertsen.
Junior Varsity -- Gino Gatti, Mitchell Dokman, Nick Graczyk, Jake Runman, Bjorn Lervick, Ryan Gearen, Mason Baldwin, Quinn Schliesman, Ryan Sever, Theo Toft, Aiden Wahlstrom, Leo Warner and Kieran Wickner.
Support Staff -- Josey King, Demi Mills, Jeffrey Raymond, Zach Zeman, Alex Brixius, Anna Kocourek, Sophia Delgado and Megan Hoch.
Additonally, 11 student-athletes were honored individually.
Jackson Bisson
A second-year varsity member, Jackson Bisson earned second-team All-Metro West Conference honors after tallying nine goals and 25 points in 28 games.
Bisson tied for the team lead in game-winning goals (3) and was second among the team's forward in plus/minus rating (+26).
Bisson was also honored by his coaches and teammates, who named him a co-captain for the 2020-21 season.
James Callahan
Serving as an assistant captain this past season as a junior, James Callahan earned honorable mention All-Metro West Conference honors following a season in which he tallied three goals and 21 points in 28 games.
Callahan, who has played in all 82 Red Knight games over the past three seasons, led the team in ice time (26:28), was second in assists (18), and tied for second on the team in plus/minus rating (+28) and blocked shots (26).
His Red Knight teammates have also chosen him to serve as a co-captain for the 2020-21 season.
Asher Connolly
In his second varsity season with the Red Knights, Connolly earned BSM's Andrew Alberts Most Improved Player Award.
After battling injuries as a sophomore, Connolly saw action in all 28 games this season, registering four goals and 18 points, with 13 of those points coming in his last 10 games, as he ended the season with a six-game point-scoring streak.
Seamus Foley
As a three-year Red Knight veteran, Seamus Foley earned the team's Vic St. Martin Coaches Award.
A co-captain this season, Foley played both forward and defense, registering a goal and five points.
The 2020-21 season will see Foley at Georgetown, where he has signed a National Letter of Intent to play lacrosse, a sport in which he led BSM to a state runner-up finish last season.
Cooper Gay
After a strong finish to the 2018-19 season, his first with the BSM varsity, Cooper Gay broke out this season to tie for the team lead in goals (18) and game-winning goals (3), led the team in points (34) and led the team's forwards in plus-minus rating (+28).
He received awards for leading the team in goals and points and capped off his season by earning All-Metro West Conference honors.
Carson Limesand
After a pair of solid seasons as a freshman and sophomore, Carson Limesand had a breakout season as a junior, his third seasons as the Red Knights' number one goalie.
With 549 saves this season, good for fifth on BSM's single-season list, he now holds the school career record with 1,507 saves, in addition to setting a career record for career minutes played (3451:22).
For the second time in his career, he posted five shutouts to tie for second on the school's career shutout list, and he ranks second on the career list with 13.
He also posted 15 wins, fifth on BSM's all-time list, and is third on the school's career lists with 40.
He also ranks fifth in single-season save percentage (.915), and third in minutes played (1231:17) this season, ranking fourth in career save percentage (.900) and sixth in goals against average (2.47).
For his efforts, Limesand was named to the All-Metro West Conference team, for the second year in a row, in addition to earning second-team All-Metro honors. He has also been named a team co-captain for the 2020-21 season.
Logan Lyke
Logan Lyke became a valuable role player in his first full varsity season, filling in at defense and forward.
In 26 games, Lyke registered a pair of goals and 11 points, while averaging nearly 10 minutes of ice time per game. He opened the season by scoring three points in his first three games, including a two-point outing versus Edina.
For his efforts and the role he played, Lyke was honored with the team's Hobey Baker Character Award.
Adam Marshall
Adam Marshall became a go-to player as a sophomore this past season, sharing the team away for most goals while also earning honorable mention All-Metro West Conference honors.
Marshall also led the team in power-play goals (3), shots on goals (116) and total shot attempts (192), and, for the second consecutive season, played in all 28 games, giving him a consecutive games played streak of 56, during which time he has 25 goals and 55 points.
Blake Mesenburg
Blake Mesenburg enjoyed a superb two seasons as a Red Knight, serving as a captain as a senior, scoring 13 goals and 28 points in 26 games while being on the team's top power-play and penalty-kill units.
In his two seasons at BSM, Mesenburg scored 36 goals and 77 points in 54 games, earning All-Metro West Conference honors both seasons.
He led all of the team's forwards in average ice time per game (19:43) and scored a pair of short-handed goals to lead the team.
He was honored as the team's best defensive forward and is slated to play for the Omaha Lancers in the United State Hockey League next season.
Nate Schweitzer
The Red Knights' lone fourth-year senior, the Colorado College-bound Nate Schweitzer was a captain for the second consecutive season and enjoyed his best season at BSM.
Schweitzer received the team award for most assists (26) while tallying six goals and 32 points in 24 games. Five of his six goals were the first goal of a game and two were game winners.
He led the team with those five first goals in addition to topping the team in blocked shots (32).
After missing four games due to injury late in the season, Schweitzer finished his senior campaign with 11 points in his final games, including a three-assist performance in the section finals.
Rated 81st among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting in the service’s midseason rankings, Schweitzer received team awards as the best defenseman, for the second consecutive season, and top scholar-athlete, for the fourth consecutive season.
An All-Metro West Conference honoree for the second season in a row, he was named second team All-Metro, third team Associated Press All-State and became BSM's seventh Mr. Hockey Finalist, the first Red Knight defenseman to be among the 10 finalist since Patrick Daly in 2011.
Charlie Warnert
A four-year letter winner, Charlie Warnert finished his career by playing all 56 games over the past two seasons, which culminated with a career-best season in 2019-20.
Warnert finished his career by playing in 102 career games, in which he tallied 18 goals and 41 points. His speed enabled him to share the team lead with six short-
handed shots on goal while recording career bests in goals (8), assists (11) and points (19), scoring three goals and nine points in the final six games of the regular season.
He was this year's recipient of the Jack Jablonski Most Determined Player Award.
Brady Yakesh
A season after playing in all 28 games as a freshman, Brady Yakesh missed the first 12 games of the 2019-20 campaign before putting together a season which saw him score twice while adding nine assists for 11 points in 16 games.
His play earned him increasing ice time throughout the second half of the season and he finished by averaging nearly 21 minutes per game.
His play and leadership earned Yakesh a role as an assistant captain for the 2020-21 season.
