BSM posts 5-2 win in Metro West opener

Bisson scores twice in victory over Jefferson.

ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. -- Jackson Bisson scored twice and Benilde-St. Margaret's thwarted a comeback attempt by Bloomington Jefferson to earn a 5-2 victory in the Metro West Conference opener for both teams.

Tristan Sarsland's goal 14 minutes, 38 seconds into the contest got the scoring and the Red Knights would takethat lead into the first intermission.

Bisson then scored both of his goals just 2:10 apart to give his team a 3-0 lead 7:09 into the second period.

The Red Knights' fourth goal came from an unexpected source as Gino Gatti scored his first career goal with 6:09 to play in the middle frame.

Jefferson, however, would put together a comeback attempts with a pair of goals, including a power-play tally to cut the lead in half heading into the second intermission.

BSM then clamped down defensively, allowing just three shot on goal in the final 17 minutes. However, the hosts were able to score just once on 21 shots as Jonah Mortenson won a faceoff and took the puck to the net to finish the scoring with 4:50 remaining.

The Red Knights held a 53-15 advantage in shots on goal as 15 of the team's 16 skaters recorded at least one shot.

Next up for BSM is a Wednesday meeting with defending Class A state champion Mahtomedi, which gets underway at 7 p.m. at the St. Louis Park Rec Center.


Tristan Sarsland got the scoring started with the only goal of the opening period.
