Drew Stewart has five points in four games since joining the Red Knights.

VICTORIA, Minn. -- Sophomore Peter Giertsen scored the game's first goal and freshman Drew Stewart turned in a three-point performance as second-ranked Benilde-St. Margaret's remained unbeaten and took over sole possession of first place in the Metro West Conference with a 6-1 win at Chanhassen.

Giertsen's second goal of the season came just two minutes, 32 seconds into the contest as he took a pass from Stewart in the left circle before beating Storm goalie Will Anderson for the lone goal of the first period.

BSM took a 3-0 lead in the second period, getting goals from Asher Connolly, on the power play, and James Callahan, both of which were set up by Grant Ellings, but the hosts got on the scoreboard with 37 seconds remaining in the middle frame as Jake Risch scored on a breakaway for Chanhassen's lone goal.

The Red Knights would close out the game strong, however, out-shooting Chanhassen 19-5 over the final 17 minutes while scoring three times.

Stewart made it a 4-1 game when he buried a pass from Tristan Sarsland, who then scored 1:41 later with less than eight minutes to play in the game.

The Red Knights got a power-play opportunity with 1:47 to play in the game and, with 15 seconds on the game clock, Jonah Mortenson shoved home a loose puck during a goal-mouth scramble to finish the scoring with both Stewart and Ellings assisting on the goal for their third points of the night.

BSM piled up a season-high 65 shots on goal in the game, holding a 65-19 advantage over Chanhassen, Carson Limesand's 18-save effort resulted in his 48th career win, three shy of Jake Schuman's school record of 51.

The Red Knights can clinch their fifth Metro West Conference title in seven years when they face second-place St. Louis Park, Saturday, in a 2:30 p.m. game, Saturday, at the St. Louis Park Rec Center.

Grant Ellings recorded a season-high three assists in the win over Chanhassen.
