Gearen's two goals not enough to overcome Trojans.

ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. -- Ryan Gearen's first two goals of the season gave 13th-ranked Benilde-St. Margaret's a 2-1 lead but 11th-ranked Wayzata tied the game with a late second-period goal and scored twice in the game's final two minutes to escape with a 4-2 win over the Red Knights.

Gavin O'Connell scored the first of his two goals, eight minutes, 19 seconds, into the opening period and the Trojans' held that lead going into the second period.

Gearen tied the game, 3:45 into the second period, when Nick Mikan out-raced the Wayzata defense for a loose puck and his shot from the far side of the right circle was kicked out into the slot where Gearen, trailing the play blasted home his first career varsity goal.

He would then scored his second career goal just 10 minutes later, with 3:10 to play in the middle stanza.

Carson Limesand recorded a career-high 44 saves.

Set up in front of the Trojans' net, Gearen redirected a shot from the left point by Tristan Sarsland and through the legs of Wayzata goalie Will Ingemann.

The lead would last for less than two minutes as O'Connell struck again for the Trojans with 1:26 remaining before the second intermission.

The score remained tied for 17 minutes before two more late goals enabled Wayzata to come away with a victory.

Reece Gardner's shot from the right point found its way through traffic and his first goal of the season would prove to be the game winner, with 1:27 to play in the game.

The Trojans then got an insurance goal 16 seconds later when team scoring leader Jake Keller scored his team-best 13th goal of the season to secure the win.

Wayzata had a 48-29 advantage in shots on goal with Red Knight goalie Carson Limesand recorded a career-high 44 saves, the most by a BSM goalie since Jalen Long stopped 46 in a 6-5 overtime loss at Eden Prairie, Jan. 24, 2014.

The Red Knights wrap up the regular season tomorrow when they face 19th-ranked Holy Family. Game time at the Victoria Rec Center is slated for 7 p.m.
