BSM snaps three-game losing streak with win over Holy Family.

ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. -- Goals in each of the game's three periods and a 50-shot barrage helped Benilde-St. Margaret's end a three-game losing streak with a 3-0 win over Holy Family.

Not that the Fire didn't create some offense, as they generated 31 shots on goal, but were thwarted in every effort by Mason McElroy, who recorded his first career shutout.

The Red Knights got the only goal they would need when Bjorn Lervick passed the puck out of the right corner to Mitchell Dokman, who came down the slot, caught the pass in stride and buried the puck four minutes, 53 seconds into the contest.

The second period was where McElroy shined, stopping all 18 shots Holy Family fired at him while enabling his team to hold onto the lead.

That lead expanded to 2-0 with 4:37 to play in the frame when Peter Giertsen won a faceoff in the left circle, pushed the puck through his opposing center and, after picking up the puck, passed to Ryan Gearen in front of the net.

Gearen beat Kam Hendrickson before the Holy Family goalie was able to slide across to make the stop.

The third period was dominated by the Red Knights, who scored just 2:06 into the period on the power play when Michael Risteau knocked in the game's final goal on a scramble in front of the net, giving him a team-leading five goals in seven games on the season.

Mason McElroy recorded his first career shutout and was named the Red Knight Player of the Game.

The Red Knights have one final game before Christmas, facing Blake, Thursday, at the St. Louis Park Rec Center in a game slated for a 7 p.m. start.
