Red Knight junior varsity earns win after 59-shot barrage on Bears.

ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. -- Max Wendt scored with one minute, 54 seconds remaining in overtime and the Benilde-St. Margaret's junior varsity snapped a three-game losing streak with a 3-2 win over Blake.

The Red Knights dominated the game, out-shooting the Bears, 59-18. However, the hosts had trouble solving goalie T.C. Doran, who stopped 56 shots.

BSM never trailed in the game as it took the lead 6:31 into the contest when Mitchell West scored his second goal of the season.

It looked like the Red Knights may run away with the game when Luke Drews scored his second goal of the season barely four minutes later and his team had a 2-0 lead with 6:13 to play in the opening period.

Despite getting out-shot, 22-5, in the opening 17 minutes, Blake exited the first period trailing just 2-1 as Reese Hack scored just 17 seconds after Drews' goal.

The scored remained that way for nearly 46 minutes but it was the Bears' Andrew Corono, with an assist from Hack, who tied the game and, eventually, send it into overtime.

The Red Knights had the only three shots of overtime, in 3:06 of play, before Wendt scored the winner with 1:54 to play in the extra session to head into the Christmas break with a 3-3-2 record.

Mikey Lindberg had a pair of assists for BSM, getting the primary assist on Drews' goal and the lone assist on Wendt's game winner.

Although he didn't get on the scoresheet, Liam Kyle recorded a team season-high 11 shots on goal in the victory.

Mikey Lindberg had a pair assists, including the lone helped on the game-winning goal.

Charlie Winegarner was the recipient of the Red Knights' efforts on the back end, picking up his second win in three starts on the season, turning aside 16 of the 18 shots he faced.

BSM will return to action, Tuesday, as they take part in the Tradition in the Park Tournament on the East Rink at the St. Louis Park Rec Center.

The Red Knights take on Rogers, Tuesday, in a 10 a.m. game. They will follow with 4 p.m. games versus Maple Grove, Wednesday, and Stillwater, Thursday, which will close out the 2021 portion of the schedule.
