NHL Central Scouting Bureau places senior co-captain on list of 2022 draft-eligible players.

Benilde-St. Margaret's senior co-captain Tristan Sarsland was ranked 82nd among North American skaters in the NHL Central Scouting Bureau's mid-term rankings for 2022, released Jan. 12.

The 5-11.75, 182-pound defenseman is ranked fourth among high school players and second among Minnesota's preps.

"Tristan's physical play in the defensive zone and his great offensive instincts make him one of the most dominant defensemen in high school hockey," BSM head coach Ken Pauly said. "He works so hard and he continues to improve. He has grown as a player and as a leader."

In four varsity seasons, Sarsland has tallied 22 goals and 62 points in 88 games. He also has 233 shots on goal, 94 blocked shots and a plus/minus rating of +62.

On a national level, Sarsland has participated in the Select 15s (2019) and Select 17s (2021) camps and was invited to the Select 16s (2020) camp before it was cancelled due to Covid.

After making a verbal commitment to Colorado College as a freshman, he withdrew that commitment when the Tigers made a coaching change this past off-season and he is being recruited by a number of NCAA Division I schools.

Sarsland comes from a family steeped in hockey. His grandfather, Tony, led Elk River to 588 wins, good for seventh in state history, and six state tournament appearances, including a Class AA runner-up finish in 1999 and a state championship in 2001.

Tristan Sarsland has been a mainstay on the Red Knights' blue line for four years.

His father, Tryg, played collegiately for St. John’s University and spent a season with Quad City of the United Hockey League.

Last season, Sarsland was named BSM's best defenseman and earned third team Minneapolis Star-Tribune All-Metro Team honors.

In 2019, he was the recipient of the Red Knights' Scholar-Athlete Award.
