Wendt scores twice in rout of Cadets.

ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. – Max Wendt scored a pair of goals, Maceo Phillips and Ryan Baird each posted three-point performances, and Benilde-St. Margaret’s cruised past St. Thomas, 6-1, in junior varsity action.

Wendt’s first goal came six minutes, 20 seconds into the contest and, despite being outshot, 14-10, the Red Knights took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

BSM added two more goals in the second period.

Westan Quirk scored just 23 seconds into the middle frame and Baird added his fifth goal of the season with 6:21 remaining in the stanza.

The third period saw the Red Knights step on the gas, record 20 of their 43 shots on goal in the 15-minute session, while putting the game away with three more goals.

The first of which came at the 5:27 mark of the period as Charlie Hoch put BSM up 4-0 and, three minutes later, Wendt scored on the power as Phillips as Baird both picked up their second assists of the game.

The Cadets finally got on the scoreboard with 3:54 to play but it took the hosts just 27 seconds to respond as Phillips scored the game’s final goal.

Thank in large part to a 20-9 advantage in the third period, BSM outshot St. Thomas, 43-34, for the game with Sam Schumacher, making his season debut, turning in a 33-save effort.

Next up for the Red Knights is St. Louis Park, which they will host in a 5 p.m. game, Saturday, at the St. Louis Park Rec Center.

Maceo Phillips had a season-best three points and a game-high seven shots on goal.
