Red Knights explode for 20 goals in junior varsity win

Ten-goal second period highlights BSM victory.

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- The Benilde-St. Margaret's Red Knights exploded for 20 goals, 10 in the 15-minute second period, and posted a 20-0 win over Bloomington Kennedy.

Nik Wahlstrom set the tone for the game when he scored just 10 seconds into the game, kicking off an opening 15 minutes which saw the Red Knights score six times.

Ryan Baird scored twice in the opening period while Nick Palmer, Westan Quirk and Charlie Hoch also scored to give BSM a 6-0 lead heading into the second intermission.

In the second period, the goals came fast and furious, starting with Mitchell West's goal two minutes, 36 seconds into the middle stanza.

Eight goals came in the span of 6:24 from that point, capped off by Palmer's short-handed goal with six minutes to play in the second period.

In between those two goals, Liam Moser scored twice while Nick Wahlstrom, Charlie Moen Charlie Conway and Colin Norman also tallied with Conway scoring his second goal and Palmer and completed his hat trick in the period's final two minutes.

With running time in for the entire third period, BSM scored just four times with Moen, Palmer and West all scoring their second goals of the game and Palmer capped of his night with his fourth goal of the game.


Charlie Moen scored his first two goals of the season and led the Red Knights with a +13 rating.

Wahlstrom, who scored twice, added four assists for a game-high six points while Max Wendt also chipped in with four assists. Moser and Baird both added three assists for five-point games.

The Red Knights scored their 20 goals on 65 shots. Meanwhile, they limited the Eagles to just eight shots on goal, with Brennan Chapman collecting his fifth win and first shutout of the season.

BSM is returns home, where it will play four of its final five games of the season, Tuesday, facing Metro West Conference opponent Orono in a 5 p.m. game.
