Winegarner stops 20 in seventh win of the season.

ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. -- After scoring at least five goals in each of its last eight games, including 29 combined goals in the last two games, Benilde-St. Margaret's was tested in the junior varsity.

But Charlie Wingarner made Nik Wahlstrom's first-period goal stand up as the game winner by stopping all 20 shots he faced in a 3-0 victory over Orono.

For Winegarner, it was his fourth consecutive win and he is unbeaten in his last six starts with a pair of shutouts, lowering his goals against average on the season to 2.08 to go with a .911 save percentage.

Wahlstrom's first-period goal was all the Red Knights needed to remain unbeaten in Metro West Conference play as he scored with two minutes, 47 seconds remaining in the opening frame.

Spartan goalie Peyton Anderson kept his team in the game by turning aside all 13 shots he faced in the second period as the game remained 1-0 in favor of the Red Knights into the third period.

BSM finally got its second goal when Liam Kyle scored at 3:35 of the final period to give his team some breathing room. It extended his point-scoring streak to seven games, during which time he has scored five goals.

For insurance, Xander Wilharm scored his third goal of the season, and first power-play tally, with 8:15 to play and the hosts locked down Orono thereafter.

Both Ryan Baird and Max Wendt, the team's top two scorers with 32 and 25 points apiece, both extended their point-scoring streaks to eight games with assists on Wahlstrom's first-period goal.

Liam Kyle gave the Red Knights a 2-0 lead in the third period and recorded a game-high five shots.

Saturday will be a chance for BSM to avenge the only blemish on their Metro West Conference record as they host Chaska in a 5 p.m. at the St. Louis Park Rec Center.

The teams skated to a scoreless tie at Chaska, Jan. 11, despite the Red Knights holding a 56-9 advantage in shots on goal.
