Three-goal third periods pushes Storm past Red Knights.

ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. -- A goal 38 seconds into the final period snapped a 1-1 tie and led to a three-goal third period as Chanhassen put an end to Benilde-St. Margarets' 10-game junior varsity unbeaten streak.

The Storm scored the only goal of the first period, three minutes, 36 seconds into the game, and made the lead hold up for nearly 25 minutes before Mitchell West scored the only goal of the second period to tie the score.

The scoring play started when Liam Moser won a puck battle along the left-wing boards with Westan Quirk skating away with the puck. His pass found West at the Chanhassen blue line and an outside-in move around a Storm defenseman put him in position to score from the right circle.

The visitors wasted little time when the third period started, regaining the lead just 38 seconds into the final frame and, less than four minutes later, made it a two-goal lead, which they took into the game's final minute.

With goalie Charlie Winegarner pulled for an extra attacker, Nick Palmer's shot from the right point was tipped by West and Liam Kyle banged home the rebound from the right of the goal with 45 seconds to play.

However, the Red Knights were unable to get the equalizer and, with nine seconds remaining, Daniel Block, who scored Chanhassen's first goal, dumped the puck into an empty net to seal the win.

Winegarner faced 28 shots and stopped 25 in  suffering his third loss in 11 decisions on the season.

The Red Knights are in action again, Thursday, when they play their final road game of the season at Champlin Park beginning at 5 p.m.

Liam Kyle's extra-attacker goal with 45 seconds to play gave the Red Knights a chance at extending its 10-game unbeaten streak.
