Red Knights unable to overcome two early goals.

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- Second-seed Edina came out with a pair of first period goals, less than four minutes apart, and it was all the Hornets would need to upend top-seeded Benilde-St. Margaret's, 4-0, in the Section 6AA title game.

All four of Edina's goals came in the final seven minutes of a period, with their first period goals coming with six minutes, 34 seconds, and 2:45 to play.

In the second period, the Hornets took a 3-0 lead with 4:17 to play in the frame, and they added an empty-net goal in the third period with 3:14 to play in the game.

Mason McElroy stopped 23 of the 26 shots he faced in suffering the loss while senior Sam Schumacher closed out the game's final 2:26 and stopped two shots.

The loss was the fourth consecutive year in which the Red Knights got to within one game of returning to the state tournament.

The team's 22 wins on the season tied for the fifth-most in school history and were the most since BSM went 25-1-1 in 2015-16.
