Pair of Red Knights earn All-Metro honors

Post-season awards begin to roll in for BSM co-captains.

Benilde-St. Margaret's senior co-captains Brady Yakesh and Tristan Sarsland have been named to the Minneapolis Star Tribune All-Metro team.

The duo led the Red Knights to a 22-6-0 record, the team's first 20-win season in six years, and a fourth consecutive Section 6AA title game.

Yakesh led the team in assists (34), short-handed goals (2), plus/minus rating (+54) and ice time (26:04) this season while scoring 10 goals and 42 points in 28 games. He set career highs this season in every statistical and analytical category.

An assistant captain as a junior before serving as co-captain this season, the BSM blueliner has verbally committed to Minnesota for the 2023-24 season and is set to play in the North American Hockey League with the Chippewa Steel in 2022-23.


Brady Yakesh is the first Red Knight to earn first-team All-Metro honors since 2016.

Mr. Hockey candidate, Tristan Sarsland, was named to the All-Metro team for the second consecutive year, earning second-team honors.

Sarsland was named to the All-Metro second team after earning third team honors in 2021.

He scored 12 goals in each of the last two seasons, the first Red Knight defenseman score double-figures in goals since Jake Horton ('12) in 2010-11 and 2011-12.

Sarsland led the team in power-play points (11) and blocked shots (34) this season and also saw time at center, where he won 63.6 percent of his faceoffs.

While being second on the team in average ice time per game (25:05), he was also second in shots on goal (137), plus/minus rating (+41) and power-play goals (4).

In his career, he played 103 of 105 games, scoring 30 goals and 83 points wile recording 324 shots on goal, 108 blocks and a plus/minus rating +98.

He was recently named as one of 10 finalists for the Mr. Hockey Award as the state's top senior hockey play. He was also ranked 82nd in the NHL Central Scouting Bureau's mid-season rankings. He was the second-ranked high school defenseman and second-ranked Minnesota high school player to be ranked among North American skaters.

Sarsland will join the Fairbanks Ice Dogs of the NAHL this weekend and continue with the team during the final four weeks of the regular season and during the playoffs.
