Six-goal first period leads BSM JV to rout of Bloomington Jefferson

Salmon records first-period hat trick, five points, to lead Red Knight outburst.

ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. -- Taylor Salmon scored three goals in the first period, added assists in the second and third periods, and his five-point night led the Benilde-St. Margaret's junior varsity to an 11-2 win over Bloomington Jefferson.

Salmon scored just one minute, 55 seconds into the game and his second goal at 4:47 finished a run of four goals in five minutes, which also saw Westan Quirk and Dylan Popehn score goals.

Both Quirk and Popehn, who's goal was his team-leading 18th of the season, added a pair of assists for three-point outings.

Liam Moser added a first-period goals as BSM took a 6-1 lead into the first intermission.

Wyatt Elder and Jack Anderson gave the hosts an 8-1 lead before Charlie Bartsch scored his second goal of the game for Jefferson.

Piper then scored his goal, with Salmon adding his first assist, to send the game into the third period with running time and the Red Knights leading 9-2.

Liam Kyle got the third period's first goal, 5:13 into the frame and Noah Johnson scored an unassisted goal on a solo rush for his first goal of the season with 4:01 to play.

BSM, after getting 22 shots in the opening period and 20 more in the second, enjoyed a 58-15 advantage in shots on goal. All 14 Red Knight skated registered a shot and 13 of the 14 had two or more.

Logan Nowlin was the recipient of the Red Knights' play as he faced just 15 shots, stopping 13.

BSM returns to action and the St. Louis Park Rec Center, Thursday, for a 5 p.m. game versus Chanhassen.


Louis Piper had a season-high four points, including a trio of assists.
