Berg's hat trick paces Red Knights to shutout win over Jaguars

BSM scores three in each period to post 9-0 win over Jefferson.

ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. -- Senior Wes Berg scored the game's first goal, finished the night with a hat trick and added an assist to lead #10 Benilde-St. Margaret's to a 9-0 Metro West Conference win over Bloomington Jefferson.

On Senior Knight, three of the Red Knights' four senior skaters recorded multiple points in the game while senior Brennan Chapman collected his second shutout of the season.

After Berg opened the scoring and gave BSM a 2-0 lead, junior Ben Norris scored with one minute, 31 seconds remaining in the opening period, a period in which BSM racked up a 31-4 advantage in shots on goal.

After sophomore Maceo Phillips scored his fourth goal in the last two games, 4:20 into the second period, a pair of seniors made it a 5-0 game as Maximos Wendt set up Peter Giertsen for his fifth goal of the season.

Junior Gavin Reed sent the teams into the second intermission with his first goal of the season with a blast from the left faceoff circle.

It was an all junior goal to open the scoring in the final period as Norris and Michael Risteau set up Caleb Koskie, who has scored a goal in four of his last five games.


Maximos Wendt had a goal and an assist on Senior Knight.

Berg then completed his hat trick with 7:58 to play with an extra-attacker goal and Wendt closed out the game with his fourth goal of the season with 3:55 remaining.

BSM recorded a season-high 65 shots on goal while limiting Jefferson to just nine.

Next up for the Red Knights is Thursday's Metro West Conference showdown with league-leading and #3 Chanhassen, Thursday. The teams are slated to meet at 7 p.m. at the St. Louis Park Rec Center.
