Red Knights wrap up regular-season title with rout of Spartans

Berg's five-point performance paces BSM to share of MWC crown.

NEW PRAGUE, Minn. -- Wes Berg recorded his second hat trick of the season and had a season-high five points as #7 Benilde-St. Margaret's routed New Prague 13-3, in the team's regular-season finale.

With the win, the Red Knights wrapped up a share of their seventh Metro West Conference title in nine seasons, sharing the crown for the first time with Chanhassen.

Gavin Reed started the scoring just one minute, 33 seconds into the game and set off a six-goal first period for BSM, which saw Cole Bumgarner scored back-to-back goals, including the eventual game winner.

Michael Risteau also turned in a two-goal effort and was one of 12 Red Knights with a multiple-point game, as 16 of the team's 18 skaters recorded at least one point.

BSM had a 50-24 advantage in shots on goal. Mason McElroy stopped 14 of 16 shots through two periods and Brennan Chapman closed out the game by stopping seven of eight shots in the final period.

The Red Knights learn the Section 6AA seedings, Sunday, with their first playoff game coming Thursday with the time, opponent and location to be announced.
