Benilde-St. Margaret's defense accounted for eight points, including a three-point night by Mason Minor, as the 14th-ranked Red Knights opened the Metro West Conference portion of its schedule with a 6-0 win over Waconia.
Junior Podein got the hosts on the scoreboard first as he finished off a 2-on-1 with Tyler Kirschner, extending his goal- and point-scoring streaks to four and nine games, respectively, eight minutes, 57 seconds into the opening period.
A.J. Ulrich scored short-handed with 2:46 remaining in the period when he beat his back check on the left side and Keegan Davis' centering pass was right on his tape and he went forehand to backhand before raising the puck over Wildcat goalie Brody Butler.
Throughout a lopsided second period, in which BSM held a 21-2 advantage in shots on goal,, Butler kept his team within striking distance until Cam Kirschner picked up a loose puck on the left side of the net and scored on a wrap around with 3:58 to play in the middle stanza.
A three-goal third period finally put the game away with Cam Kirschner starting the scoring 1:18 into the session when he took a pass from Nick Johnson at the Waconia blue line, broke in on goal and went backhand to forehand before tucking the puck under Butler for his team-leading eighth goal of the season.
Grayson Quirk and Mason Smith picked up their first points of the season as Smith hit Quirk near the Red Knight blue line.
Quirk circled in the neutral zone before rushing up the right side. He cut towards the net from the bottom of the right circle and, from beneath the goal line, reached back and tucked a shot inside the right post for his first career goal.
Nick Johnson finished the scoring with 1:29 to play when he walked across from the left point to the top of the slot and his shot found its way through traffic while BSM was on its fourth power-play of the game.
Cam Kirschner was named the game's second star after scoring his seventh and eighth goals of the season.
For the first time since Dec. 4, 2021, the Red Knights knocked off Eden Prairie, claiming a 4-2 win at home.
Junior Podein scored a pair of goals and Noah Johnson scored his second game-winning of the season as BSM overcame an early one-goal deficit with four consecutive goals.
After falling behind at 6:40 of the first period, A.J. Ulrich tied the game less than a minute later to begin that four-goal run.
In the second period, Podein scored at the 6:45 mark and Johnson's goal came with four minutes remaining in the frame.
Less than three minutes into the final period, Podein struck again when he took a pass from Nick Johnson as he came across the blue line, split the Eden Prairie defense and, while being hooked to the ice, put the puck in the upper-left corner of the net.
BSM got a 27-save effort from Christopher Dean, who collected his seventh win of the season.
Both of Noah Johnson's goals this season have been game winners.
Connor Timmins' first career goal gave the Red Knights a first-period lead but Mason Kraft scored twice in the second period and set up Moorhead's final two goals as the top-ranked Spuds survived a wild third-period for a 5-3 win.
Moorhead took a 2-1 lead into the final period, where Keegan Davis scored the first of his two goals, on the power play, 5:45 into the period.
The teams would trade two goals apiece in under five minutes, including three goals a span 1:39 with Davis' goal at 9:29 tying the game for a third time.
However, the Spuds got the game-winner less than a minute later and added an empty-net goal for the final margin.
Davis, who had a goal in his previous four games before the week, tallied five points in the three game, including a three-point effort at Moorhead.
Meanwhile, Timmins record the first multiple-point game of his career and has three points in the last two games.
Next up for the Red Knights is a return home and to Metro West Conference play when they take on Chaska, Thursday, in a 7 p.m. contest.
Keegan Davis had a five-point week, capped with his two-goal, three-point performance at Moorhead.
