Red Knights see 14 of 17 skaters record points in 11-0 win.

ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. -- Twelfth-ranked Benilde-St. Margaret's got points from 14 of its 17 skaters, including multiple-point performances from nine players, en route to an 11-0 rout of Chaska.

The Red Knights were dominant in all phases of the game, holding a 71-9 advantage in shots on goal while winning 46 of 59 faceoffs.

However, after jumping out to an early lead, three minutes, 11 seconds into the contest, on a Dylan Popehn goal, it took more than 11 minutes before the hosts got on the scoreboard again, when Junior Podein score on a wraparound on the power play, with 2:37 to play in the opening frame.

It would take just 25 seconds for Mason Minor to set up Mason Smith for the latter's first varsity goal and, with 49 seconds remaining on the clock, Cam Kirschner scored to send the teams into the first intermission with BSM holding a 4-0 lead.

Despite bombing Hawk goalie Frank Petz with 30 second-period shots, the Chaska netminder did his best to keep his team in the contest by recording 27 saves.

However, just 33 seconds into the period, Connor Timmins scored his second goal in as many games and, barely two minutes later, Taylor Salmon ensured running time in the final period by making the scored 6-0.

Smith scored his second goal of the game with 5:06 to play in the middle stanza before the Red Knights scored four goals on 14 shots during a running-time third period.

Mason Smith scored his first two career goals in the win over Chaska.

Grayson Quirk opened the scoring in the final session, at 4:20, and Timmins and Kirschner would both score within the next three minutes.

Minor capped off the scoring when he and Christian Beck worked a give-and-go while cross into the Chaska zone and Minor's short-handed goal with 17 seconds to play wrapped up the scoring.

Alex Beaton made his varsity debut in goal for the Red Knights and, despite only facing nine shots, showed his skills.

Just past the seven-minute mark of the second period, and trailing 6-0, Chaska had its best change of the night when Brayden Soderstrom carried the puck from left to right behind Beaton.

He flipped a backhand pass through traffic to Tyler Schmieg, whose shot back across Beaton appeared to have the Red Knight netminder beaten, until he made the save by stretching back to his left for a pad save.

Next up for BSM is Saturday's Metro West Conference contest with Chaska, slated for a 7 p.m. faceoff at the Victoria Recreation Center.
