LONG LAKE, Minn. -- Jack Johnson and Mark Walsma each scored twice in the opening period, and Benilde-St. Margaret's added three third-period goals en route to a 7-2 junior varsity win over Orono.
Johnson opened the scoring with a power-play tally just two minutes, 10 seconds, into the contest and he and Walsma traded goals until 2:02 remained in the period, sending the visitors into the first intermission with a 4-0 lead.
Orono held a 10-8 edge in shots on goal in the second period but Alex Beaton kept the Knights at bay through a scoreless frame.
The Red Knights then took a 5-0 lead just 58 seconds into the final period when Danny Hankey scored an unassisted short-handed goal.
Orono closed the gap to 5-2 in less than five minutes before Bergen Kopischke scored another short-handed goal for BSM, his team-leading 17th goal of the season.
Drew Hoffman then closed out the scoring with his first goal of the season, with 1:32 to play.
Special teams played a key role for the visitors, who went 1-for-4 with the man advantage while recording 10 shots. On the penalty kill, the Red Knights were 3-for-3 with a pair of short-handed goals and five shots.
Orono recorded eight shots during a five-minute power-play but BSM scored the lone goal during the major penalty kill.
In all, BSM held a 41-23 advantage in shots on goal with Beaton stopping 21 shots for his sixth win of the season.
The Red Knights will be in action again, Saturday, with a 1 p.m. matinee versus St. Louis Park.
Max Schumacher collected three assists in the victory.
