Tyler Kirschner paces BSM with career-high five points

CHASKA, Minn. -- Tyler Kirschner had a team season-high five points, and Connor Timmins and Peyton Mulheran both scored twice as No. 10 Benilde-St. Margaret's routed Chaska, 11-0.

Kirschner scored his five points in less that 24 minutes as he assisted on Mulheran's first-period goal, scored with four minutes, 13 seconds to play in the opening period, and tacked on three more assists in the second period.

The scoring started quickly as A.J. Ulrich scored 2:02 into the game ahead of Mulheran's goal.

Carter Callan's shot from the left point found its way through traffic and into the back of the net midway through the period and Kirschner rounded out a four-goal opening frame.

The second period started quickly as well for the Red Knights as Junior Podein scored in his eighth consecutive game by walking the puck off the left wall into the faceoff circle, and snapping a wrist shot for his 19th goal of the season.

Connor Timmins has his second two-goal game versus Chaska this season.

Grayson Quirk scored 1:02 later when he took a pass from Christian Beck on a 2-on-1 and buried his shot for his fourth goal of the season.

Cam Kirschner got into the act with 5:37 to play in the period and, in the final minute, Keegan Davis picked up a puck that the Hawks were unable to control before skating around the left circle and scoring from the top hash mark.

Timmons' second goal came when he banged home a shot during a scramble in front of the net at 5:05 of the final frame.

Mulheran finished the scoring with 2:02 to play. After taking a pass from Mason Smith, he skated into the left circle and beat relief goalie Nathan Brandt high on the blocker side.

Christopher Dean stopped Chaska's 12 shots as BSM owned a 67-12 advantage in shots on goal. It was his 11th win and third shutout of season.

The Red Knights head north this weekend for a pair of marquee matchups.

Friday, they face Class A-No. 2 Hermantown at 7 p.m., followed by Saturday's 3 p.m. matinee with No. 15 Grand Rapids.

Peyton Mulheran recorded his first varsity two-goal game.
