Former Benilde-St. Margaret's defenseman Nate Schweitzer ('20) signed a professional contract, March 13, with the Maine Mariners of the East Coast Hockey League, where he joins goalie Ryan Bischel as one of two former Red Knights on the Mariners' roster.
Schweitzer was a captain as a junior and senior for BSM and recorded 99 career points in 102 games, registering career highs as a junior in goals (15), assists (27), points (42), and power-play goals (7).
After scoring eight goals and 23 points for the Sioux Falls Stampede (USHL), he attended Colorado College, where he played for two seasons before transferring to Lake Superior State.
Nate Schweitzer served as an assistant captain for Lake Superior State as a senior.
He tallied six goals and 31 points in 72 career games with the Lakers, leading the team in assists (15) and all LSSU defensemen in points (18) as a senior, during which time he served as an assistant captain.
Five days after the Lakers' season ended with a loss in the CCHA quarterfinals, Schweitzer signed with the Mariners and appeared in both of the teams' games over the weekend, in which they earned three of four points versus Adirondack.
The Maine Mariners are the ECHL affiliate of the Boston Bruins.
