Tyler Thompson, a freshman forward at Minnesota State University, has been named Red Baron® Co-WCHA Rookie of the Week for Nov. 14-15, as a result of his outstanding play in the Mavericks’ split with WCHA-rival Colorado College last weekend.

A native of Deephaven, Minn., Thompson had a goal and assist in two games versus the then third-rated Tigers.

He scored MSU’s second goal at 13:59 of the third period to lift MSU to a 2-1 win over the Tigers Friday, Nov. 14. The goal, which came with the Mavericks on the power play, was not only his first career goal, it was also his first career power play goal and his first career game-winning goal, as well. He was named the game’s First Star. He then was credited with an assist on an even-strength goal by Rylan Galiardi in a 4-3 loss to CC Saturday.

Thompson shares this week’s award with University of North Dakota goaltender Brad Eidsness.

During his three years as a Red Knight, Thompson cored 32 goals and 70 points. He led BSM in his final season, 2005-06, with 58 points, which ranks eighth on the school's all-time single-season scoring list. His 29 goals that season ranks 10th.
