Cornell, Arnason pick up offense in win at St. Francis.

Matt Arnason recorded his first hat trick of the season, giving him five goals in two nights.

Matt Cornell scored 54 seconds into the game, added two assists and Matt Arnason recorded his first hat trick of the season as the Benilde-St. Margaret's junior varsity cruised to a 7-0 win at St. Francis.

Having already lost stalwarts Jack Lawton and Mark Kaske to full-time varsity service, and with Will Duda skating exclusively for the varsity against the Saints, and with an injury to Jerry Calengor, the Red Knights were down to 13 skaters to start the game.

When Zach Risteau, who had nine goals and 14 points in six previous games, went down to an injury on his first shift of the game, BSM's lineup was getting thin.

However, just 24 hours after scoring two key goals in a 5-4 win over Shattuck-St. Mary's, Arnason notched three goals and picked up four points in the game.

Cornell, a second-year squad member, recorded just three points in his first 16 games this season but, with his three-point performance at St. Francis, has six points in his last four games.

Justin Winter also tallied a goal in the game, his fifth of the season giving him goals in back-to-back games for the first time.

Davis Melin added the Red Knights' other goal, just his second of the season and his first multiple-point game of the campaign, while Mark Falls collected his first assist of the season.

Patric Rooney was the benificiary of the offensive support as he was called upon to make just nine saves, seven of which came in the second period, to collect his fourth win and second shutout of the season.

BSM is in action again, Saturday, when it faces Eden Prairie in a 1 p.m. game at the Eden Prairie Community Center.
