BSM junior varsity cruises to win over Chisago Lakes

Three power-play goals spur Red Knights

Benilde-St. Margaret's scored three power-play goals and, after a sluggish start, cruised to a 6-0 win over Chisago Lakes.

The Red Knights got a 5-on-3 power-play chance late in the first period and Taylor Topousis took advantage as he got the game's first goal with three minutes, 39 seconds to play in the opening frame.

Just 34 seconds later, Anthony Brask converted the second power play when he he knocked in a rebound of a Henry Williams shot.

The visitors took over the game in the second period as they outshot the Wildcats, 16-4, in the middle frame.

John Kernan's team-leading 20th goal of the season came 4:27 into the period and he then set up Jeff Spellmire as BSM took a 4-0 lead.

Chris Flood scored on the power play with 1:52 to play in the period and Evan Peterson scored 1:38 into the final period to round out the scoring.

Luke McCormick recorded his second consecutive shutout as he turned aside all nine shots he faced.

The Red Knights have back-to-back home games this week, with St. Francis coming into the St. Louis Park Recreation Center for a 5 p.m. game, Tuesday, Feb. 10.
