BSM alum to dress immediately for Steelheads

The Idaho Steelheads of the East Coast Hockey League announced the signing of Blake Friesen today.

The Benilde-St. Margaret's alum was inserted in the team's lineup for this evening's 3-0 win over the Ontario Reign.

The 23-year-old former Red Knight spent four seasons with Minnesota State University, where he lettered four years and served his senior year as assistant captain.

Friesen played a total of 111 games for the Mavericks with four goals,13 assists and 80 penalty minutes. Prior to college, he played two seasons of junior hockey with the USHL’s Sioux Falls Stampede.

Friesen spent four years in a Red Knight sweater. He was a member of the school's 2001 Class A state championship team and, as a senior, became the school's only Mr. Hockey finalist.

The top scoring defenseman in BSM history, Friesen posted 34 goals, 80 assists and 114 points in 107 career games. He's tied for third on the school's all-time assist list and ranks 11th in career scoring.
