Opening minutes prove too much to overcome.

Just 30 minutes after getting off a two hour, 15 minute bus ride due to a snowstorm which hit the Twin Cities, Benilde-St. Margaret’s found itself trailing by two goals less than six minutes into its junior varsity game and they could not recover, dropping a 2-0 decision to Hill-Murray.

The Pioneers got a goal from Sam Becker just 2:04 into the contest and Dan Cashman scored at 5:32 in a period which the hosts held a 9-4 advantage in shots on goal.

From that point, the game was evenly played, with the Red Knights holding a 12-11 edge in shots on goal over the final 30 minutes.

In all, Hill-Murray had a 20-16 advantage in shots on goal. Anders Jecha stopped 18 shots in the loss.

BSM returns home Saturday for a 12:30 p.m. meeting with North Suburban Conference foe Irondale.
