Twelve BSM skaters score points in victory.

Patrick Daly registered a career-high five assists and Benilde-St. Margaret's recorded at least 20 shots in each period en route to a 10-1 win over Irondale in the North Suburban Conference opener for both teams.

It took BSM nine minutes, 55 seconds before John Duda got the game's first goal and, despite a 24-1 advantage in shots on goal, the Red Knights were only able to take a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

Dan Pemberton and Brett Patterson scored second-period goals but Jake Dalnes' power-play goal for the visitors cut the lead to 3-1 and, while outshooting Irondale 44-6, BSM had just a two-goal lead through two periods.

A seven-goal third period, however, turned the game into a rout as Will Nelson scored a short-handed goal 3:15 into the final frame and Grant Besse scored goals just 42 seconds apart to turn it into a 6-1 lead.

Brett Patterson and David Tranvik scored goals barely a minute apart and Patrick Graham and Dan Pemberton added markers to round out the scoring.

In all, BSM outshot Irondale, 65-8, with all 17 skaters recording at least one shot on goal.

"As much as we dominated tonight, I really don’t think we played with any real fire until the third period," Red Knight head coach Ken Pauly said. "Irondale has a very good goalie and we needed to be more purposeful in the offensive zone.

"I really liked the play of the (Pat) Steinhauser line tonight. Nelson and Duda went to the body with real intensity in the game’s second half and Steinhauser has been our most consistent player in the early part of the season."

The win gives BSM a 3-0-1 record heading into its meeting with 12th-ranked Cretin-Derham Hall, Dec. 15. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
