BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- Benilde-St. Margaret's avenged its only junior varsity loss of the Metro West Conference season by wrapping up the 2017-18 campaign with a 6-1 win at Bloomington Jefferson.
The Red Knights suffered a 4-1 loss, Jan. 23, at home to the Jaguars but, after a slow start in the season finale, they rolled over their hosts.
Despite a 17-5 advantage in shots on goal in the first period, it took 13 minutes, six seconds, before Will Thompson connected on the first of his two goals.
However, a slot start to the opening period led to a quick finish as BSM would scored three times in 88 seconds as Logan Lyke scored just 15 seconds after Thompson's goal and, with 26 seconds remaining, Charlie Deterding banged home a rebound for a 3-0 lead.
Will Thompson finished the season with a team-best 19 goals after scoring twice versus Jefferson.
Jefferson scored a power-play goal just 1:18 into the second period but Brady Giertsen answered that goal less than three minutes later and Thompson's second of the game, and 19th of the season, came at 5:26.
Cooper game made it 6-1 with 1:13 to play in the middle stanza and the Red Knights went into shut-down mode in the final period.
Although they enjoyed a 19-shot advantage, allowing just 16 shots on goal, the Red Knights needed some big saves from Caven Slocum who made 15 saves.
BSM concludes its junior varsity schedule with a 15-8-2 record, including an 8-1-0 in Metro West Conference play.
