Three-goal outburst helps Red Knight JV put away Wings

Jonny Woodford's back-to-back goals snaps 1-1 tie en route to 5-1 win.

NEW HOPE, Minn. -- Johnny Woodford scored late in the second and early in the third period, snapping a 1-1 tie, and Benilde-St. Margaret's scored three goals in a 68-second span in the final period to seal a 5-1 win at Armstrong/Cooper.

The Red Knights scored three times in the opening 1:38 to break open the game.

After Woodford's unassisted, short-handed goal with 3:07 to play in the second period, which broke a 1-1 tie, he then scored on the power-play just 30 seconds into the final period.

It was just 37 seconds later that Brady Giertsen made it a 4-1 game and Logan Lyke's power-play goal, 31 seconds after that goal, made it a 5-1 score.

BSM finished the game out with a 17-2 advantage in shots on goal in the third period, the same margin it had in the opening period when it fell behind when the Wings scored just 51 seconds into the game.

The Red Knights evened the scored on a Will Thompson goal, which started their run of five unanswered goals.

BSM had a 48-11 advantage in shots on goal for the game with Charlie Frattalone making 10 saves to collect the win.

The Red Knights return home, Saturday, for a 12:30 p.m. matinee with Duluth Marshall before the Christmas break.


Logan Lyke had a game-high eight shots on goal to go with a goal and an assist.
