BSM junior varsity drops tight affair with Holy Angels

Goodmanson's 23-save effort not enough in 2-0 loss.

RICHFIELD, Minn. -- Simon Goodmanson stopped 23 shots but Holy Angels scored late in the first period, added an empty-net goal with 38 seconds to play in the game and came away with a 2-0 junior varsity win over Benilde-St. Margaret's.

The Starts scored with 2:44 to play in the opening period and it would be the only goal of the game through the first 44 minutes of the contest.

In the meantime, both teams killed a pair of penalties, including a five-minute major by the Red Knights, as Goodmanson and Holy Angels' Mason Meyer Hooked up in a goaltending duel, combining to stop 46 of the game's first 47 shots.

The hosts put the game away when they on the penalty kill with 1:21 to play in the game. Jonah Slater scored a short-handed goal into an empty net with 38 seconds to play to seal the win.

Goodmanson, who played 44:17, stopped 23 of 24 shots, including all 16 he faced over the last two periods.

BSM is idle for a week until returning to Metro West Conference play when it is slated for a 5 p.m. game versus Bloomington Jefferson at the Bloomington Ice Garden.
