Elk River scored twice on special teams in the second period to overcome Benilde-St. Margarets' first-period lead to claim the consolation title of the Sports Authority Holiday Hockey Classic with a 2-1 victory.
Mark Kaske put the Red Knights on top just two minutes, 27 seconds into the game when he knocked home a Jerry Calengor rebound and the lead would hold until the 6:34 mark of the second period, when the Elks' Dylan Bouten scored on the power play.
The game appeared headed for a 1-1 tie into the second intermission but, with BSM on the power play, Elk River caught the Red Knights on a line changed and Briggs Leadens scored on a breakaway with 10 seconds on the clock for the eventual game winner.
Patric Rooney stopped 18 of 20 shots, including all 14 even-strength shots by the Elks.
BSM returns to action after the new year by hosting Wayzata in a 5 p.m. game, Thursday, at the Rec Center.
