Moore's five points leads BSM to win over Wayzata in rematch.

Grant Besse scored a pair of goals and assisted on two others in a new role for the Red Knights.

Five days after Wayzata handed Benilde-St. Margaret's a 7-1 defeat in the Sports Authority Holiday Hockey Classic, the two teams met again in a regularly scheduled game back at the St. Louis Park Rec Center.

After skating through a scoreless opening 17 minutes, T.J. Moore scored 36 seconds into the second period, Grant Besse added a laser-like power-play goals less than four minutes later and the fifth-ranked Red Knights got a measure of revenge on the second-ranked Trojans with a 5-2 victory.

After seeing the Trojans blocked 27 of their 83 shots attempts, Saturday, the Red Knights came out with Besse taking shifts on defense in an attempt to make the visitors loosen up their defense by coming out to play the state's leading active career points leader.

After Moore scored just 36 seconds into the middle stanza, BSM went on a power play at 4:20 and, with Besse at the point, the strategy paid off.

Spencer Naas won the ensuing faceoff in the left circle to Moore on along the boards. He passed to Besse outside the slot and his initial shot was blocked by Chase Heising. However, the puck rebounded to Moore who again gave the puck to Besse and with Heising hesitating to get in front of another blast, Besse's 50-foot shot beat goalie Jens Vaughan Ahrens over the blocker.

The hosts tacked on one more goal before the end of the period when Moore won a faceoff in the right circle in the Trojans' zone. Dan Labosky sent a pass to the front of the net, when Naas made a nifty move behind his back to tip the puck on goal. Vaughan Arens stopped that shot and Moore's rebound but Naas banged home the third attempt with 29 seconds on the clock.

The Lineys would get a goal in transition just 37 seconds into the final period as Moore brought the puck up the left boards into the Wayzata zone. He left a drop pass for Moore, who quickly found Besse in the top of the right circle and a one-time slapshot by BSM's scoring leader found the back of the net.

The Trojans refused to quick and came back with a Chad Olson goal, one second after their only power play of the game ended, at 4:18 and, just 15 seconds later, it was Chase Haller cutting the lead to 4-2 with 12:27 to play.

With 6:36 to play, it was Labosky's turn to get in on the scoring as Moore took the puck from Besse off the right boards, skated to the bottom of the right circle and found his left wing alone in the slot for an easy redirection goal.

BSM held a 30-19 advantage in shot on goal over Wayzata, which blocked 21 of the Red Knights' 70 shot attempts. Andrew Sprang made 17 saves for the Red Knights to earn the win.

Two tough tests await BSM next week as top-ranked and defending Class A champion St. Thomas Academy will host the Red Knights, Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Two days later, it will be a rematch of last year's Section 6AA championship as seventh-ranked Minnetonka invades the St. Louis Park Rec Center for a 7 p.m. game.
