Freshman forward's first hat trick tops 7-1 win.

Matt Cornell scored BSM's first goal and added an assist to aid in the team's 7-1 win.

Zach Risteau score on the power play, on the penalty kill and at even strength. He made one goal happen all by himself and he finished off plays by others on two other goals.

In the end, the freshman forward's first hat trick as a Red Knight led the Benilde-St. Margaret's junior varsity to a 7-1 win at Rochester Lourdes.

Although Risteau led the way with four points, it was Matt Cornell who got things going for the Red Knights as he took a pass from Eddie McHugh and scored from the left faceoff circle just two minutes, 37 seconds into the game.

BSM would take a 3-0 lead into the first intermission following a short-handed goal by Risteau at 8:39 of the opening period and, with 2:38 remaing in the first stanza, he scored unassisted.

Just 35 seconds into the second period, Risteau set up Will Duda to give the visitors a 4-0 lead and, midway through the period, Duda returned the favor as the pair hooked up on the power play to make it a 5-0 game.

The Red Knights would take a six-goal lead into the final period when Duda scored on the power play and Matt Arnason eventually finished off the 7-1 win when he scored with 5:25 to play in the game.

Arnason and Cornell both finished with a goal and an assist for BSM, which had a 46-12 advantage in shots on goal. Duda recorded 11 of those shots and Risteau had 10.

Jalen Long, who had recorded ties in his last three outings, picked up his first win in over a month by stopping 11 of the 12 shots he faced.

The Red Knights are home again, Wednesday, to face Holy Family in a 5 p.m. game at the St. Louis Park Rec Center.
