Former Red Knight accepts offer from Niagara

Former Benilde-St. Margaret's standout Pat Borer has accepted a scholarship offer from Niagara University and has enrolled at the school where he will join the Purple Eagles' hockey team for the 2011-12 season.

Borer's four-year Red Knight career culminated with a 2008-09 campaign in which he served as a team captain, earned honorable mention all-state honors and was a third-team All-Metro selection. During his final season, he tallied 12 goals and 31 points in 27 games and finished his career with 22 goals and 72 points in 104 games. He was also named the team's best defenseman.

Borer moved on from BSM to Sioux City of the United States Junior Hockey League and also played for Owatonna in the North American Hockey League for the 2009-10 season. He was limited to 22 games due to injuries before playing for the New England Huskies of the Eastern Junior Hockey League last season.

With the Huskies, he was third on the team in scoring and led the team's defensemen with six goals and 22 points. He was second on the team with 10 power-play points and chipped in a pair of game-winning goals.

Niagara is a member of the Atlantic Hockey Association. The Purple Eagles have made three NCAA tournament appearances in 13 seasons.

Borer will be one of five former Red Knights playing NCAA Division I hockey this season, joining former teammates Matt Berglund (Providence), Patrick Daly (Wisconsin) and Mike Shibrowski and Chris Student (Minnesota).
