Former Red Knight goalie headed east next season

Former Benilde-St. Margaret's goalie Jacob Meyers has verbally committed to attend and play hockey for Quinnipiac University beginning next season.

As a sophomore in 2007-08, he backstopped the Red Knights to a third-place finish at the Class AA state tournament, posting a 14-2-0 record with a 1.94 goals against average and a .902 save percentage.

The 2010 BSM grad was twice named All-North Suburban Conference during his high school career and was a recipient of the Vic St. Martin Coaches Award in 2007-08.

He finished his career ranked second in school history in career wins (42) and minutes played (3043:41) while posting a 2.50 GAA, which ranks fourth in school history, and five shutouts.

He will become one of eight players from BSM's 2007-08 squad to play NCAA Division I hockey when he suits up for the Bobcats next season.

Currently in his second season with Alexandria of the North American Hockey League, Meyers is third in the NAHL this season in save percentage (.931) and fourth in goals against average (1.85).
