Red Knight alum named goalie of the month

One day after giving a verbal commitment to Quinnipiac University, former Benilde-St. Margaret's goalie Jacob Meyers has been named the North American Hockey League's goalie of the month for November.

Meyers, a 2010 BSM graduate, posted a 7-1-1 record in nine games played during the month of November. He posted two shutouts during the month and stopped 228 of 241 shots, a .946 save percentage, posting a 1.44 goals against average.

Both of Meyers' shutouts in the month of November came on the road. He made 24 saves in a blanking of Minot, Nov. 18, and five days later made 27 saves in a shutout against the Coulee Region Chill, Nov. 23rd.

Meyers played in all but one game for the Blizzard in November.  During that span, Alexandria put together an 8-1-1 record during month and climbed from fourth to second place in the Central Division standings.

“I think everything started to click, not only for me, but especially our team,” Meyers said. “Everyone started to buy into the system and there was a lot of confidence in the lockerroom. Part of that is a belief in your goaltender. The guys in front of me have to believe that I am going to stop the puck and give the team a chance to win every game.”

During his Red Knight career, Meyers was a recipient of the Vic St. Martin Coaches Award in 2007-08 and finished his career ranked second in school history in career wins (42) and minutes played (3043:41) while posting a 2.50 GAA, which ranks fourth in school history, and five shutouts.

Currently in his second season with Alexandria, he is third in the NAHL this season in save percentage (.931) and fourth in goals against average (1.85).
