Moore-Besse-Labosky tally nine points in win over Marshall

T.J. Moore recorded his first career hat trick and was set up for all three goals by linemates Grant Besse and Dan Labosky as Benilde-St. Margaret's  notched a 5-2 win over the Marshall School.

The win was a much-need victory for the Red Knights, coming off of a 5-1 loss at Burnsville, Thursday.

"It's a nice bounce-back win for the guys," BSM head coach Ken Pauly said. "When you lose like we did last week to Burnsville, it's very disappointing for everyone involved and the only way to get over that is to get back to work and to string some more wins together."

Despite dominating much of the game, the Red Knights found themselves in a 2-2 game early in the third period.

Connor Flaherty put the Hilltoppers on the scoreboard first when his long slapshot deflected off of the glove of BSM goalie Anders Jecha and trickled into the net with five minutes, 47 seconds gone in the game.

The visitors held that lead until the 3:01 mark of the second period when Moore tied the game with the first of his three goals and then added a power-play tally with six minutes to play in the period, giving the Red Knights a 2-0 lead.

The Hilltoppers tied the game again when Luke Pavelich scored a power-play goal, 3:05 into the final frame, but Moore scored 33 seconds later to put his team ahead for good.

"Clearly T.J. had a great night," Pauly said. "He works hard and he clearly deserved to get fed a little bit today."

The home team put the game on ice with a pair of late goals. With 7:10 to play, Seth Chumley converted a Marshall turnover in the neutral zone into his second goal of the season when he carried the puck into the zone and scored from the left faceoff circle.

Christian Horn finished off the scored with 2:01 to play when Christian Horn took a Jack Glover pass and beat Hilltopper goalie for his third goal of the season.

"What I liked most about today's game was that the boys responded in an impressive fashion when the Hilltoppers tied the game," Pauly added. "It was nice to see Seth Chumley dump one in the net tonight. That gave us some breathing room – finally – and we were able to win going way."

The Red Knights' dominance of the game was highlighted by a 53-16 advantage in shots on goal, which included a 28-4 margin in the second period. During the middle frame, BSM attempted 45 shots.

Despite our dominance today, we still have a long way to go in many facets of the game," Pauly stated. "It will be our job as a team to keep addressing those things."

The Red Knights return to action with another home game, Tuesday, when they host Holy Angels in a 7 p.m. at the St. Louis Park Recreation Center.
