BSM junior varsity falls in final minute to St. Thomas
Red Knights suffer first loss of 2022-23 season.
MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. -- Benilde-St. Margaret's came from behind twice only to see St. Thomas scored in the final minute as the Red Knight junior varsity lost for the first time this season, falling 3-2 to the Cadets.
The hosts got on the scoreboard just one minute, 55 seconds into the game but Nik Wahlstrom even the score with just under five minutes remaining in the opening frame.
St. Thomas scored the only goal of the second period but, once again, BSM tied the game when Dylan Popehn scored his 11th goal of the season on his 11th shot of the game.
However, with just 44 seconds to play in the game, Luke McPherson collected the game-winning goal for the Cadets.
St. Thomas held a 35-28 advantage in shots on goal and Charlie Winegarner stopped 32 shots for the Red Knights.
BSM is in action again Saturday, when they make the trek up I-94 to Moorhead for a noon game versus the Spuds.
Nik Wahlstrom got BSM on the scoreboard with his sixth goal of the season.
