Red Knights stun #5 St. Thomas on the road

Stenger scores twice to ice BSM's third consecutive win

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. -- Mason Stenger scored the eventual game-winner and added an empty-net goal to seal a 4-2 over fifth-ranked St. Thomas.

The win for the Red Knights was their first victory at St. Thomas Arena since a 3-1 win over the Cadets, Jan. 13, 2015.

The opening period was a scoreless affair but BSM took the lead just 19 seconds into the second period when Wes Berg tallied the opening goal.

The game's next three goals came via the power play at St. Thomas tied the score less than five minutes later.

Drew Stewart scored at 8:12 of the second period, with a set up by Stenger, who scored on the power play with 1:06 to play the in the middle frame.

Tommy Cronin scored his second goal of the game with 4:10 to play, cutting the lead to one goal, before Stenger's empty-net tally with 22 seconds to play in the game.

The Red Knights were 2-for-3 on the power play and held a 32-29 edge in shot on goal as Mason McElroy stopped 27 shots for his fifth win of the season.

Next up for BSM is trip to Moorhead, where the the Red Knights will take on the 11th-ranked Spuds in a 5 p.m. game at the Moorhead Sports Center.


Drew Stewart scored a goal and recorded two assists for his ninth multiple-point game of the season.
