ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. -- Benilde-St. Margaret's jumped out to an early two-goal lead but it was a dominant second period, in which the eighth-ranked Red Knights scored three goals and allowed just three shots on goal as they returned to Metro West Conference play with a 7-1 win over Chaska.
Seven different players scored goals in the game and eight players recorded multiple-point games in the offensive outburst.
Caleb Koskie and Wes Berg scored goals in the games first six minutes, 31 seconds, before the Hawks' Ty Broten scored on the power-play.
Michael Risteau scored 5:12 into the second period and Cam Kirschner also scored but the highlight goal of the game came with 3:19 to play in the middle frame.
While killing off a five-minute major penalty, Mason Minor stripped the puck from a Chaska player inside his own zone. He quickly made a tape-to-tape pass to Peter Giertsen who was flying through the neutral zone. He took the pass in stride and went in to score the short-handed goal.
The third period saw A.J. Ullrich score his first career goal just 2:17 into the final period before Drew Stewart added his team-leading 13th goal of the season 1:38 later to finish the scoring.
Both Minor, Ben Noriis and Maceo Phillips, who recorded a game-high +4, each had a pair of assists in the game.
Wes Berg scored the game-winning goal and had a game-high five shots on goal.
Meanwhile, Mason McElroy record 13 saves as the Red Knights held a 33-14 advantage in shots on goal.
The teams will complete their home-and-home series, Saturday, when they faceoff at 2 p.m. at the Chaska Community Center.
