Red Knights take advantage of Rebel turnovers to post 2-0 win.

CHAMPLIN, Minn. -- Benilde-St. Margaret's had a hard time solving Champlin Park goalie Evan Whipple but the Red Knights finally broke through in the middle of the second period and added an empty-net tally for a 2-0 junior varsity victory.

Sophomore Taylor Salmon, after more than 23 minutes of scoreless hockey, took advantage of a Rebel turnover and converted it into his 10th goal of the season. The goal came on BSM's 21 shot of the game.

Whipple would stop the final 14 shots he faced but was pulled for an extra attacked with one minute, 23 seconds to play in the game.

With 25 seconds to play in the game, junior Nick Palmer made Champlin Park pay for a turnover as he scored an unassisted goal into the empty net, sealing the team's 12th win of the season.

After seeing just six shots in the first two period, Red Knight junior Charlie Winegarner stopped nine shots in the final 15 minutes of play to finish with 15 saves and his first shutout of the season.

The Red Knights have six days off before returning to action for a home game at the St. Louis Park Rec Center with Metro West Conference foe Bloomington Jefferson. The games is slated for a 5 p.m. start.

Nick Palmer's fifth goals of the season, into an empty net with 25 seconds to play, sealed BSM's victory.
