Salmon's late goals overcome Eagles' third-period lead.

ST. LOUIS PARK -- Benilde-St. Margaret's scored twice in the game's final eight minutes to overcome a one-goal deficit to wrap up the home portion of their schedule with a 3-2 win over Eden Prairie.

The Eagles would hold two leads in the game, the first when they struck first, nine minutes, 22 seconds into the game, when Matt Casey Scorer on the power play.

But that lead would last barely three minutes as the Red Knights tied the scored with 4:21 to play in the opening frame.

Westan Quirk won a faceoff in the left offensive-zone circle, drawing the puck back to Jack Anderson. He quickly found Gian Dante Aloi in the middle of the ice, inside the blue line.

Aloi shot through traffic and Eden Prairie goalie Jack Mlodozyniec gave up a rebound that Dylan Popehn jumped on for his 20th goal of the season.

The Eagles got a second-period power-play goal from Billie Jacobson-Couch at the 7:22 mark of the frame and they would hold that lead for a little more than eight minutes, getting to the middle of the final frame clinging to a 2-1 lead, despite being out-shot, 34-10, at the time.

With 8:16 remaining in the game, Taylor Salmon, like Quark in the first period, won a faceoff but did so by pushing the puck forward. He stepped around the Eagles' center and went straight to the net, where he jammed in his own rebound to tie the game.

Jack Anderson recorded a pair of assists and nine shots on goal.

The score remained deadlocked into the game's final two minutes before Anderson moved the puck across the top of the circles to Nick Palmer at the left point.

Palmer's shot was stopped but Salmon, who had dug the puck off the boards to Anderson, moved into the slot and was in position to bury the rebound for his 21st goal of the season with 1:28 to play.

With the win, the Red Knights finish the home portion of their 2022-23 schedule with a 10-1-1 record at home and they are now 16-2-2 on the season with five road games remaining.

BSM finished with a 39-13 advantage in shots on goal as Logan Nowlin started and picked up his second win of the week by turning aside 11 shots.

The Red Knights return to Metro West Conference play, Tuesday, when they will be at Orono for a 5 p.m. game.
