Special teams play proves to be difference in loss to Skippers

An ineffective power play, which converted just one of nine chances and allowed two short-handed goals, proved costly to Benilde-St. Margaret's in a 4-1 loss at Minnetonka.

The Red Knights generated 14 of their 26 shots on goal while on the power play but managed just one goal when Chris Hickok scored at six minutes, 35 seconds of the second period, cutting the Skippers' lead to 2-1.

Minnetonka would take a 3-1 lead late in the middle stanza on the first of its two short-handed tallies.

BSM spent more than half of the third period, eights minutes, 10 seconds in all, on the power play but it was another short-handed tally by the Skippers, 3:24 into the final period, which sealed the deal.

The Red Knights are in action again, Saturday, when they take on Robbinsdale Cooper at New Hope Arena beginning at 1 p.m.
